Spicy Beef Fajita Burger Recipe

Hamburgers are American staples, and there are always new and exciting ways to eat them.Tasting Table recipe developer Jennine Rye gave the classic beef burger a spicy Tex-Mex twist with fajitas' delicious and inspiring flavors.

1 pound ground beef 1 large egg, room temperature 1 tablespoon + ½ teaspoon fajita seasoning, divided Pinch of chili flakes ⅓ teaspoon onion powder ¾ teaspoon garlic powder, divided salt, to taste pepper, to taste ½ cup mayonnaise ¼ cup sour cream 1 tablespoon fresh coriander, finely chopped Juice of ½ lime 1 tablespoon cooking oil 1 large onion, sliced 2 red bell peppers, sliced 6 slices cheddar cheese 6 burger buns 1 cup lettuce leaves

Mix ground beef, egg, fajita seasoning, chili flakes, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.

Make 6 round beef patties with dimples in the middle. Put beef patties in the fridge for 30 minutes.

Combine mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic powder, chopped coriander, lime juice, and fajita seasoning to create the sauce.

Cooking oil in a large pan on medium heat. Sauté sliced onion and bell peppers for 15 minutes until caramelized. Set aside.

Add as many beef patties as will fit to a lightly greased cast iron pan over medium-high heat. Don't crowd the pan.

Patties should be browned on the outside and cooked through after 3–4 minutes per side.

Sliced cheddar cheese should melt 1-2 minutes before the burgers are done cooking.

Layer a spoonful of sauce, lettuce, the cooked beef patty, a spoonful or two of the cooked onions and peppers, and the top of the burger bun with sauce.
